\u00a0Malgr\u00e9 des t\u00e9moignages et des textes de plus en plus pr\u00e9cis et clairs, une certaine confusion r\u00e8gne encore souvent autour du terme m\u00eame de \u201cma\u00eetre\u201d. Il d\u00e9clenche parfois une forme de rejet automatique, de r\u00e9flexe de d\u00e9fense. Pourtant, cette lecture moderne est largement anachronique et passe \u00e0 c\u00f4t\u00e9 de ce qui est r\u00e9ellement en jeu dans les traditions spirituelles authentiques. Ainsi, on \u00e9voque souvent \u00e0 ce propos, dans le langage contemporain, la d\u00e9pendance, la perte de contr\u00f4le ou d\u2019autonomie, notamment \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9gard de pr\u00e9tendus \u201cguru<\/em>\u201d spirituels. Une telle repr\u00e9sentation est pourtant bien \u00e9loign\u00e9e de la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 de la relation au ma\u00eetre telle qu\u2019elle est envisag\u00e9e dans toutes les traditions authentiques, et plus sp\u00e9cifiquement dans celle du dzogch\u00e8n, ou \u201cgrande perfection\u201d.<\/p>\n

Plusieurs articles de ce blog sur la relation au ma\u00eetre dans le dzogch\u00e8n et le bouddhisme tib\u00e9tain ont d\u00e9j\u00e0 largement clarifi\u00e9 ce type de lien tout \u00e0 fait unique entre ma\u00eetre et disciple<\/a>\u00a0: les fonctions du ma\u00eetre<\/a>, y compris dans d’autres traditions (S\u00e9rie, \u201cL’ami de bien<\/a>\u201d, 1-4), le type de relation dont il s\u2019agit<\/a> ou encore les trois mani\u00e8res de \u201cservir\u201d, r\u00e9v\u00e9rer ou respecter les ma\u00eetres<\/a> (tib. zhabs tog rnam gsum<\/em>), etc. Entre plusieurs r\u00e9cits du pass\u00e9 sur les premiers ma\u00eetres du dzogch\u00e8n<\/a> et ceux contemporains de Mila Khyents\u00e9 Rinpoch\u00e9 avec son propre ma\u00eetre, Alags Ch\u00f6rten<\/a>, une conception plus fondamentale du \u201cma\u00eetre\u201d en tant que miroir et reflet<\/em> de notre propre nature se devine, le ma\u00eetre \u2013 femme ou homme \u2013 \u00e9tant alors un \u201cmoyen habile\u201d, un principe de m\u00e9thode \u2013 mais \u00f4 combien pr\u00e9cieux et indispensable \u2013 dont l’\u00e9l\u00e8ve doit faire usage, avec clart\u00e9 et discernement, pour reconna\u00eetre sa propre nature primordiale.<\/p>\n

Ainsi, l\u2019engagement envers un \u201cma\u00eetre\u201d, distinct de toute soumission aveugle exempte de volont\u00e9 ou d\u2019esprit critique, est plus justement d\u00e9nomm\u00e9 \u201cd\u00e9votion\u201d (mos gus<\/em>), qui \u00e9voque l\u2019id\u00e9e d\u2019un respect authentique. Mos<\/em> (\u201dmeu\u201d) d\u00e9note l\u2019aspiration, la motivation, l\u2019\u00e9lan vers\u00a0; et gus<\/em> (\u201dgu\u201d), le respect profond, la r\u00e9v\u00e9rence<\/a>. Il s\u2019agit donc avec la \u201cd\u00e9votion\u201d d\u2019une aspiration profonde et d\u2019une confiance<\/em> in\u00e9branlable dans la nature ultime de toutes choses que le ma\u00eetre nous aide progressivement \u00e0 reconna\u00eetre au fur et \u00e0 mesure de notre cheminement. Il ne s’agit donc en rien d’une ob\u00e9issance servile \u00e0 une personne, mais d’un abandon confiant<\/em>, d’une ouverture, d’un appel et d’une aspiration vers ce que nous sommes plus r\u00e9ellement, plus authentiquement. Cet engagement suppose bien \u00e9videmment un grand discernement et une \u00e9valuation pr\u00e9alable de ce \u00e0 quoi nous remettons notre confiance \u2014 ce qui n\u00e9cessite un certain temps d\u2019observation<\/a>. Nous pourrions donc demander au \u201ccheminant spirituel\u201d sceptique<\/em> qui sommeille en nous, \u00e0 quoi est-ce que je m’en remets habituellement, si ce n’est au ma\u00eetre en tant que nature primordiale ? Ma perception ordinaire de la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 n\u2019est-elle pas une sorte de d\u00e9pendance \u00e0 mes propres tendances et habitudes personnelles ? Pourrais-je r\u00e9ellement parvenir \u00e0 m\u2019en lib\u00e9rer en ne m’en remettant qu’\u00e0 moi-m\u00eame ?<\/p>\n

Le ma\u00eetre authentique n\u2019exige pas la soumission ou la d\u00e9pendance : il oriente vers ce qui d\u00e9passe \u00e0 la fois le ma\u00eetre en tant que \u201cpersonne\u201d et le disciple, \u00e0 savoir vers une conception du \u201cma\u00eetre\u201d en tant que nature ultime de la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 \u2013 le terme de ma\u00eetre pouvant alors \u00eatre trompeur. De plus, dans le Dzogch\u00e8n, le ma\u00eetre sous sa forme humaine n\u2019impose jamais rien. Il est l\u00e0 pour guider et nous pr\u00e9senter \u00e0 la reconnaissance directe de la nature de notre propre esprit. Nous seuls devons cheminer.<\/p>\n

Ce qui ali\u00e8ne ou soumet n\u2019est donc pas la \u201cd\u00e9votion\u201d librement consentie envers le ma\u00eetre, mais la d\u00e9pendance inconsciente, issue des repr\u00e9sentations de notre ego<\/em>, \u00e0 nos habitudes mentales et \u00e0 notre illusion de contr\u00f4le. S\u2019engager et \u201cd\u00e9pendre\u201d d\u2019une voie ou d\u2019un ma\u00eetre spirituel, c\u2019est donc s\u2019entra\u00eener \u00e0 cesser d\u2019ob\u00e9ir \u00e0 nos m\u00e9canismes automatiques qui ne font pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment que nous maintenir soumis, hors de notre propre ma\u00eetrise \u2014 et nous entravent sur un chemin de lib\u00e9ration.<\/p>\n

De ce point de vue, la \u201cd\u00e9votion\u201d peut alors devenir le geste le plus lib\u00e9rateur qui soit\u2026 Une relation juste au ma\u00eetre ne produit donc aucune d\u00e9pendance durable mais elle conduit progressivement, tout au contraire, \u00e0 d\u00e9velopper une r\u00e9elle autonomie int\u00e9rieure, \u00e0 \u201cdevenir son propre ma\u00eetre\u201d (tel que Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoch\u00e9<\/a> traduit rang dbang \u2014<\/em> prononcer \u201crang wang\u201d : \u201c\u00eatre \u00e0 soi-m\u00eame sa propre puissance\u201d).<\/p>\n

Au final, la question importante n\u2019est donc peut-\u00eatre pas : \u201cfaut-il se soumettre ?\u201d mais plut\u00f4t : \u201c\u00e0 quoi sommes-nous d\u00e9j\u00e0 soumis sans le savoir ?\u201d Et \u00e0 partir de l\u00e0, \u00e0 quoi d’autre nous \u201csoumettre\u201d pour n’\u00eatre plus soumis \u00e0 rien \u2013 mais regagner la parfaite et compl\u00e8te libert\u00e9 qu’est notre condition ultime et originelle.<\/p>\n
