La base-de-tout se dit en tib\u00e9tain \u00ab\u00a0k\u00fcnshi\u00a0\u00bb (kun gzhi<\/em>), et en sanskrit \u0101laya<\/em>. Le tib\u00e9tain \u201ck\u00fcn\u201d, qui signifie \u201ctout\u201d, donne l\u2019id\u00e9e d\u2019un ensemble, tandis que \u201cshi\u201d signifie \u201cfond, base, fondement\u201d.<\/p>\n

La base-de-tout est le substrat de toutes les potentialit\u00e9s [1]<\/strong><\/a> et le r\u00e9ceptacle de toutes les traces [2]<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0pour toute exp\u00e9rience possible : toutes les existences, les perceptions, les pens\u00e9es, etc., y sont \u00e0 la fois enregistr\u00e9es, produites et conserv\u00e9es. Ce fonctionnement par \u201cd\u00e9veloppement\u201d et \u201cenregistrement\u201d perp\u00e9tue l\u2019illusion de continuit\u00e9 de nos existences qui, encore et encore, reproduisent les m\u00eames sch\u00e9mas habituels, en un cycle ferm\u00e9 sur lui-m\u00eame.<\/p>\n

La base-de-tout est un \u00e9tat neutre habituellement associ\u00e9 au fondement de l\u2019esprit ordinaire conditionn\u00e9 (\u201ds\u00e8m\u201d ; sems<\/em>) et de ses \u00e9v\u00e9nements mentaux. En ce sens, on peut en faire l\u2019exp\u00e9rience d\u2019une mani\u00e8re conditionn\u00e9e lors des absorptions m\u00e9ditatives des trois dimensions d\u2019existence (d\u00e9sir, forme, sans-forme). Il ne s\u2019agit alors pas de rig pa<\/em>, l\u2019\u00e9vidence primordiale.
