The Tibetan word \u201ck\u00fcn\u201d, which means \u201ceverything,\u201d conveys the idea of a whole, while \u2018shi\u2019 means \u201cground, base, foundation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The ground of all is the substrate of all potentialities <a href=\"#down\"><strong>[1]<\/strong><\/a> and the receptacle of all traces <a href=\"#down\"><strong>[2]<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0for every possible experience: all existences, perceptions, thoughts, etc., are simultaneously recorded, produced, and preserved there. This functioning through \u201cdevelopment\u201d and \u201crecording\u201d perpetuates the illusion of continuity in our existences, which reproduce the same habitual patterns over and over again in a closed cycle.<\/p>\n<p>The basis of everything is a neutral state usually associated with the foundation of the ordinary conditioned mind (\u201cs\u00e8m\u201d; <em>sems<\/em>) and its mental events. In this sense, it can be experienced in a conditioned way during meditative absorptions of the three dimensions of existence (desire, form, formless). This is not <em>rig pa<\/em>, the primordial evidence. The ground of all is therefore to be distinguished from the \u201cprimordial ground\u201d (\u201cy\u00e9shi\u201d; <em>ye gzhi <a href=\"https:\/\/dzogchentoday.org\/the-ground-tib-shi\/\">The ground (gzhi)<\/a><\/em>\u00a0because they can be confused, hence the need for clarification on this point.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_image
